Research Productivity and Institute Intellectual Output

With the surge for Accreditation, Recognitions and Ranking by institutions/organizations, the focus on faculty publication and research start gaining importance. Discussion on publishing in UGC CARE Journals, impact factor, h-index and above all plagiarism became the hot topic for talks, presentations and panel discussion.

The invitation from St. Joseph's First Grade College, Hunsur, is one in this line. St Joseph's wanted to share my views on 'Research Productivity and Institute Intellectual Output' yesterday (June 17, 2021). Happy to see nearly 200+ audience on Zoom. Thanks to Mr Mahadev, Librarian of the invited college for much wider publicity.

Productivity in simple terms is the output produced in a given period per unit of production factors used to produce it. Research productivity is the number of publications per researcher with a distinguishing impact on the field. There are different perception and different objectives for the stakeholders in an organization about research productivity. If we analyze it in a holistic manner, the focus is on what is the impact on – Education, Public Policy, Clinical Practice, Expert Recommendation, Scholarly World, Disciplinary Change, Culture, Buzz and Popularity, etc.

The presentation mainly focused on how each publication contributes to the overall intellectual output of the institute; secondly, how the efforts to give visibility to the publication & the author benefit the organization. The demo on registering for the ID's on Google Scholar, ORCID, and Scopus took major time of the session. Able to spend very little time to share information about some of the Research Networking tools.

Enjoyed the question & answer session

Special thanks to the Principal and the Administrative Officer of the institute.
