Creative Workshop using CANVA Photoshop Tools

 



Enjoyed the interaction with young managers of JSS Center for Management Studies (JSS CMS) Mysore during the 'Creative Workshop using Canva' today, Wednesday, June 16, 2021. 

The book by Pavan Soni (2020) on 'Design your thinking' helped a lot to link 'Creativity' to the 'Designing' of Creatives for SDMIMD. But, the book published in 1975 by Prof. A. Neelameghan on 'Presentation of Ideas in Technical Writing' gave a different perspective to the holistic understanding of 'Design Thinking'. The presentation of psychology and the thinking process in Idea Plane, Verbal Plane and Notational Plane by Prof Neelameghan is amazing. After reading the complex small book published during the last century, the current publications on 'Design thinking' became the old wine in the new bottle. 

Coming to today's workshop, it was a great experience to engage the young managers for 6 hours on a hands-on session on Canva (www.canva.com), a graphic design platform used to create social media graphics, presentations, posters, documents and other visual content; and another tool Weebly - a free website builder to create a website, blog, or online store.

It was amazing to see the way students adopted the technology and nurtured themselves to the online teaching-learning process. When the workshop's outcome is analyzed, whether creatives from Canva or websites designed by Weebly by the student participants, it is simply superb. 

One thing is sure, the pandemic has cut down the time distance drastically in technology adoption in the teaching-learning process.

Engaging library fraternity with emerging technologies

It was a refreshing session delivered today (Saturday, May 29, 2021). After a big gap spoke about ‘libraries’ moving away from regular topics - research methodology, plagiarism, reference management, searching, e-learning, etc. The word ‘emerging technologies’ used to denote the experimental stage of the technology but used as common as which is already put into action. Started the session to clarify the same with some video(s) and discussed 10 thoughts about the developments which I feel adaptable by the libraries to move ahead with National Educational Policy (NEP) 2020 and Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy 2020. The initial 5 thoughts focused on Changing Role of the Library and its Management. The thoughts are much needed to enhance the presence of the library & the librarian; and to ensure the library is associated with stakeholders of the organization & the society at large. RIMS tool for analyzing research contribution

The changing dimensions of libraries and services have introduced different roles to the librarian. Awareness about teaching-learning process, documentation, record management, publication activity, participation in academic gatherings such as conference and seminar, and association with the academic network, has made librarians to extend their services beyond the library responsibility. Today, librarians are involved in many responsibilities to match the nomenclature to the roles they performed in an organization. And, the librarians have accepted the nomenclatures such as – Knowledge Manager, Record Manager, Head of Information Services, Information Manager, Head – Web Services, etc. – gracefully. Since libraries are the storehouse of publications, any activity pertaining to publication librarian will be the defined member in the committee. Hence, librarians own the responsibility of managing records of the Institute publications and publications by faculty/research community too.
